Sunday celebrations around the kitchen table
Hey there, foodie friends!
Welcome to another “Sunday around the kitchen table!” I’d like to welcome my newest friends from the farm market to the table tonight. I hope you’ll enjoy this little blog post about celebrations.
Let’s hear it for beautiful weather, milestone birthdays, and Earth Day. Whew! I told you this was about celebrations!
This baker gal was busy all week, baking for several special events, including the farm market. Yesterday was MY birthday, and no, I did NOT bake myself a cake! I did think about it, but my hubby quickly nixed that idea. I had a great 49th birthday. I got to celebrate with family and friends and eat cake made by someone else, lol!
I did get to bake for two special people, both celebrating milestone birthdays within days of my own. April is always a busy month for me, with quite a few friends celebrating birthdays. I was blessed to be able to participate in their celebrations by of course, baking!
Thanks to my friend Nicole for sending me this picture late last night of her and her family celebrating her husband’s 40th birthday with cake by me! My husband and I have known Paul and Nicole since before they were married and had those beautiful little boys. We are all transplants from Pittsburgh here in NOVA, and love all things black and gold, so the details of his cake were easy. Paul and his boys LOVE hockey, and I made sure he knew he was the “first star of the game” with my fondant gold stars! On a side note, the birthday boy isn’t a big fan of chocolate cake. But after tasting a cake I made for his his youngest son’s birthday in January, he had a change of heart!
Thank you, Nicole, for your order and continued support of my small baking business!
Next up- a special cupcake order for a sweet young lady’s 21st birthday! These vanilla cupcakes are filled with my homemade lemon curd and frosted with raspberry buttercream. They were enjoyed by family and friends at a local winery earlier today. I’d pair these cupcakes with a light, crisp white wine. The perfect dessert on a gorgeous spring day. Thank you to my friend Tonya for the special order for her daughter, Jess!
Celebrate the last few hours of “Earth Day” with my special cookie from yesterday’s event out in Haymarket. This marbled sugar cookie is my old-fashioned sugar cookie recipe, with a little twist. No glaze, but vanilla bean flavoring and fun color throughout! Sugar sprinkles for the win on top! If you didn’t get the chance to try one at the market, no worries. If you are local, visit the All Saints Parish Festival in Manassas next weekend (April27-28) and stop by the bake shop there and pick up a few!
The kitchen will be bustling with activity again this week, so make sure you are following me on Instagram and Facebook for updates!
Thanks for stopping by the kitchen tonight.
Now log off, hang up and hang out- in YOUR kitchen!
Love and blessings,
